Our Responsibility to Nature

Aveda is passionately committed to working in harmony with the environment. This philosophy is reflected in the quality of our products as well as in our dedication to the well-being of others. Aveda aims to be a pioneer in the cosmetics industry, not only through the excellence of its products but also in its respect for natural resources and its promotion of a more sustainable world.

 Our Mission

Aveda invests strategically to ensure the sourcing, purity, and quality of its plant-based ingredients. Our products offer exceptional performance, demonstrating that nature can unleash its full power.

Aveda Sets New Standards for Sustainability in the Cosmetics Industry

As the first cosmetics company in the world, Aveda received the Cradle to CradleSM sustainability certification from the globally recognized environmental institute EPEA (Environmental Protection and Encouragement Agency). This recognition marks another milestone in Aveda’s 31-year history in sustainability. After receiving the Cradle to CradleSM certification for four of its organic ingredients in 2008, Aveda has now received the “Gold” certification for seven of its products.

What is Cradle to CradleSM?

The Cradle to CradleSM design concept is inspired by natural cycles, where all materials are considered nutrients that are continuously reused. The vision is a world without waste and pollution. Aveda’s products awarded with this certification are “ecologically effective” and “environmentally intelligent” as they are made with environmentally safe, healthy, and reusable materials.

100% Certified Wind Energy

Aveda products are made using 100% certified wind energy. Since 2007, the entire energy consumption of Aveda’s Distribution Center and its Blaine, Minnesota, manufacturing facility has been fully powered by wind energy. Aveda is the largest purchaser of wind energy in Minnesota. This shift helps reduce CO2 emissions by 3,600 tons annually, which is equivalent to the annual energy consumption of approximately 446 households. “Our long-term goal is to become a company with 100% sustainable production and distribution processes that produces no waste,” says Dominique Conseil, President of Aveda. “Transitioning our Blaine facility to 100% wind energy is a major step in this direction. We also encourage our partners and suppliers to make the same change, as only together can we achieve measurable global success.”
